The list of Windows 8 running touchscreen laptops you can buy in the price bracket of $699 is not exactly big but companies like ASUS are trying their best to bring killer features without increasing the price too much. The new VivoBook S500 and S550 ultrabooks that it has released retail for $699 and $750 respectively.
The cheaper of the two notebooks, the VivoBook S500 has a 15.6 inch LED-Backlit display. Under the hood you get a 1.7Ghz Intel Core i5 processor and 6GBs of RAM along with 24GB SSD storage. Both run on Windows 8 and have Intel GMA HD Graphics. The hard drive storage is 500GBs.
Connectivity is quite rich with 1 USB 3.0 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0, SD card slot and webcam. All this comes in a body which weighs 2.1kg and 0.8 inches thick.
The VivoBook S550 comes with almost similar specs but a somewhat wider range of options with choice of Intel iCore i3, i5 and i7 processors and you also get an optical drive with it. Both notebooks boast metallic designs.
The notebooks are available now and cost $699 and $750 a piece. Considering the fact that respectable Windows 8 running notebooks are still harder to find, these notebooks still are a respectable offering from ASUS.
