Qualcomm Reveals New Mid Range Chips with High End Features

We have had a lot of fuss over the lack of high-end features in Qualcomm chips sported by mid-range smartphones. It seems like Qualcomm is looking to reduce the line between flagship phones and average smartphones in that regard. It is set to introduce the four latest Snapdragon chips to sub-flagship and budget smartphones this year.

The new pack of chips is a clear advancement compared to Snapdragon 400 and Snapdragon 600 chips that users on a budget have become accustomed to. The four new chips include: Qualcomm Snapdragon 415, 425, 618 and 620. Snapdragon 415 is expected to power compatible smartphones by the end of June whereas of the rest of the chips would be introduced by the end of the year.

Qualcomm has unveiled four new chips: Snapdragon 415, 425, 618 and 620

Plenty of high-end features accessible with Snapdragon 800 chips onboard will soon be accessible with these rather inexpensive chips. In addition, Qualcomm X8 LTE model has brought category 7 LTE and carrier aggregation to the three chips releasing later by the end of the year. This attributes to high download speed of a maximum of 300 Mbps along with upload speed of upto 100 Mbps.

Snapdragon 618 and 625 will experience the more significant changes with new Cortex A72 chips. The former will sport dual core setup while the latter is set to have a quad core configuration.

Both being the less cheaper of the lot will have enhanced power efficiency and performance to their benefit. Moreover, the two will support 4k video shooting and playback feature along with assistance for 13MP snappers.

It isn’t uncommon for us to see new chips for brand new devices each year but for manufacturers to support smartphones other than the big budget flagships is worth all the appreciation.

Finally, some of us who can’t afford smartphones that are double or treble the price we seek can now rest assured that we’ll get to enjoy the same high-end features in the near future.
