HEC and Afghan Govt Agree to Collaborate in Higher Education Sector

A Document of Understanding (DoU) has been signed between Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan and the Government of Afghanistan with an aim to devise a legal framework for collaboration in higher education sector.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC and Mrs. Fareeda Mohmand, Afghan Minister for Higher Education signed the DoU during a ceremony held here at the Commission Secretariat.

Under the DoU, the two sides will devise a future line of action to expand collaboration in higher education sector. The DoU signing ceremony was preceded by celebration of the success of Allama Iqbal Scholarships for Afghan National Students, a programme meant for extending 3000 scholarships to Afghan students.

The Afghan Minister was accompanied by a delegation comprising Mr. Omar Zakhilwal, Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan, Syed Abrar Hussain, Ambassador of Pakistan to Afghanistan, Prof. Dr. Abdul Tawwab, Prof Dr. Shamsur Rehman, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Faiz, Prof. Hazrat Mir, Dr. Babrak, Associate Prof. Abdul Hai, Zubair Siddiqui, Adviser IT and other notables.

The DoU ceremony was attended by HEC high officials including Dr. Arshad Ali, Executive Director HEC, Mehmoodul Hassan Butt, Adviser HEC, Dr. Mazhar Saeed, Director General Planning and Development HEC, Mr. Waseem S. Hashmi, Adviser HRD HEC, and others.
