PTA Allowed to Offer Pakistani Telcos to Conduct 5G Trials

Federal Cabinet today approved the issuance of Policy Directive to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) under Section 8 of the PTA (Re-Organization) Act, 1996 to enable testing of 5G technology in Pakistan while remaining within the regulatory environment.

Decision was taken in a meeting that held today under the headship of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad.

After this approval, PTA is going to make a framework and allow Pakistani operators to test 5G in Pakistan before its commercially auctioned in the country.

It must be noted that operators must not commercially charge for 5G services during the tests. It is yet to be ascertained that how and when PTA will allocate the spectrum to various operators for the testing purposes.

Anusha Rehman, Minister for IT and Telecom, has already indicated that Pakistan will be auctioning 5G spectrum in 2021.

Zong has said in the past that it will test 5G technology in Pakistan, if it is allowed to do so.

It must be noted that 5G as a network technology is still evolving and internationally recognized standards are yet to be determined. Meanwhile, various lab and field tests are being conducted by network and cellular companies to prepare themselves for the the launch of 5G technology when its ready.

  • Why can’t PTA force these telcos to sustain their 2G and 3G standards beside running after 5G,
    They just make us fool

  • mobilink agr 5g ki service de ga to hme ho skta hei 1 mb downloading speed mil jaye 3g pr to 100 kb ki bhi speed nahi aati rat ko to zero 0 ho jata hei

    • Tests k liye telecom sector k pas apne equipments hote hain brother aur wo kisi company k sath agreement karen ge testing k liye, like Ericsson, Nokia etc

  • 5G k aane se 3G pe Truly Unlimited Bundle to mile ga na???? ya 5G pe bhi weekly 100mb jesa bundle mile ga

      • Famous aur main dost, nahi aisi tu koi baat nahi. Aur batain karna tu ab chor di theen ProPK par. Ek waqt tha jab kia karte they batain.

        • Your comments were making some logics. Make some illogical comments and propakistani will interview you like Abdul WAHAB

          • Thats the last thing I could have expected from ProPK. I am sure its not Aamir but someone from the team, woh kehte hain na “Shah se ziyada shah ki wafadar”…

    • Kis nay KMQ ko ban kiya hai? KMQ kisi k ghar main ghusa hai kia? Foori unban kiya jaye KMQ ko. Bohat se logon nay KMQ ko dekh k propak join kiya tha jin main se aik main bhi hun. Unban KMQ henceforth.

  • Mobilink and Zong are already using 5G within their office-premises in Blue Area. Yesterday, I visited their customer support centres and found 5G signals on my mobile. I can also share screenshot.

  • Encouraging PTA as per schedule had announced trails of 5G, and they did. I understand operators in Pakistan will be equally interested in 5G, as part of the digitalisation of the economy of Pakistan. At the GSR 2018 and before as well several initiatives in Australia, New Zealand by Huawei, Huawei/ZTE had serious issues of security breach, hence NATO and other international agencies objected about the security of the networks, and lately a complete ban was imposed, and companies black listed. I’m not aware about now, but they had to face the consequences.
