Huawei Honor 10 is a Flagship on a Budget

Huawei has hopped on to the notch-train and has unveiled Honor 10 which features a bezel-less display, a premium design, dual cameras, and more.

Honor 10 is among the few Huawei phones to be powered with the AI-powered Kirin 970 chipset so we can expect it to deliver flagship grade camera experiences and top-notch performance. Let’s dig in to see what the new Honor 10 comes with.

Design & Display

Huawei Honor 10 Design and Display

Huawei Honor 10 has a bezel-less 5.84-inch IPS LCD display with a familiar notch – introduced by the Essential phone – on top and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The panel’s resolution is 1080 x 2280 pixels (Full HD+) and it has a ~ 432-pixel density. The display has a protective layer of Corning Gorilla glass, however, the company has not disclosed its version.

Its design mostly resembles its flagship sibling, Huawei P20 except for the horizontal rear camera arrangement. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the front and the rear features glass with an aluminum frame on the sides.

Hardware & Storage

The company’s neural processing chipset has proven to be highly capable of photography and cognitive decision making, it was introduced along with the Mate 10 duo. The same chipset – HiSilicon Kirin 970 – is also present in Honor 10 and has 8-cores, with 4 clocks turning at 2.4 GHz and the remaining 4 at 1.8 GHz.

There are different options available for RAM and storage, you get either 6 GB RAM paired with 128 or 64 GB internal storage or 4 GB RAM with 64 GB internal storage. Storage is expandable by up to 256 via microSD slot (uses SIM slot 2).

Camera & Software

Honor 10 has a dual rear camera set up consisting of 16 MP color and 24 MP B&W sensors. The primary camera handles most of the color rendition, while the black and white sensor is responsible for sharpness and exposure. It can still be used for taking “natural” black and white pictures though.

The selfie camera has 24 MP resolution and a decent aperture of f/2.0. Moreover, Kirin 970’s AI function helps enhance photography for both rear and front cameras by automatically adjusting settings based on the scene.

As expected, it will come running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Huawei’s EMUI 8.1 on top. No word on a prospective Android P update for now.

Battery, Price, & Availability

The battery unit has a capacity of 3,400 mAh and features Huawei’s fast charging tech with a 5V/4.5A charger.

Color options are Mirage Purple, Mirage Blue, Magic Night Black, and Gray Gull. Huawei Honor 10 has a price tag of CNY 2,600 (~Rs. 45,000) and its pre-orders will begin soon.
