Monsoon Showers to Hit During Next 5 Days: Met Office

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD/Met) has forecast a new spell of monsoon showers in different parts of the country in the next five days.

The news comes as a relief for Pakistanis as most parts of the country experienced scorching heat during the past few days, with the maximum temperature of 48°C recorded in Sibbi on Monday.

The Synoptic Situation report shared by the Met department said:

Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal have started to penetrate north-eastern parts of the country. These currents are likely to intensify from Thursday. A westerly wave is also expected to prevail over the upper parts of the country from Wednesday.

In the next 24 hours, Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are likely to receive isolated showers. The other parts of the country will remain very hot and humid.

PMD MET Weather Forecast 10-JUL-2018

On Wednesday, scattered rainfall is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), Lahore and Gujranwala Divisions while isolated showers are likely to hit Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat Divisions, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan.

For Thursday, Met Office’s prediction states:

Rain-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) accompanied by gusty winds is expected at scattered places in  KP, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions), Islamabad, Kashmir, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan while at isolated places in Zhob division.

In the past 24 hours, some parts of Kashmir including Rawalakot (38 mm), Kotli (16 mm), Garhi Dupatta (10 mm), and Muzaffarabad (03 mm) experienced rain while the rest of the country remained very hot and humid.
