AMD’s First Gen Ryzen Threadripper Chips Receive Massive Price Cuts

With the launch of its latest generation of Threadripper CPUs, AMD is gearing up to give Intel’s mid-range processors even more of a fight with lower prices for its first-generation Threadripper chips.

The price cuts reach up to 50%, as is in the case of the Threadripper 1920X, which has been reduced from $799 to $399. The processor, which comes with 12 cores and 24 threads, rivals Intel’s high-end Core i9-7900X, which is officially listed at $989.

New Rates

The 16-core 1950X has been lowered from $999 to $799, while the lower-end 8-core 1900X has seen its price slashed from $549 to $299. By comparison, Intel’s Core i7-7800X still retails for around $380, while the pricing of the upcoming octa-core i7-9700K hasn’t been announced yet. Intel’s lineup is much more petite than that of AMD here, it is safe to say.

The prices of the latest-generation processors are either comparable or higher compared to first-generation Threadripper processors. The chips start at $649 for the new 12-core Threadripper 2920X at $649, with the 2950X, 2970WX, and 2990WX available for $899, $1299 and $1799, respectively.

Slashing Prices

Retailers such as Amazon and Newegg have already started to lower the price-tags of the said chips, however, it remains to be seen if that’ll translate into lower prices locally. Not to mention the scarcity of AMD chips in Pakistan means that it’s unlikely that we’ll see any of these chips at their new prices around here (if they’re available in the first place).

The news will be great for fans of the series, a group which arguably doesn’t include gamers at all. Granted, if you do fall under the intended audience, you can now get some serious number of cores for a much lower price.
