V11 Pro is Another Premium Midranger from Vivo

Vivo’s new mid-range handset, called the Vivo V11 has finally been made official in China, after being in the rumor mill since the past few weeks.

It has a similar “water drop” notch like the Essential phone on top of a massive 6.41-inch AMOLED, and an impressive under-display fingerprint sensor. The V11 is the first mid-range smartphone to come with such a fingerprint sensor.

Design & Display

Much like Oppo, the company has been on a roll to introduce midrange smartphones with good-looking designs. In the V11’s case, it does have some high-end features that are usually reserved for the flagships – the under-display fingerprint sensor, an AMOLED display, and a glass body. This is good news – we might get to see more high-end features in midrange devices in the future.

There’s a tiny circular cutout on the front with a selfie camera, and no secondary fingerprint sensor as it’s only going to utilize the one within the display. The display is a Super AMOLED FHD+ (1080 x 2340) unit that has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Hardware & Storage

Underneath, the V11 is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset with a 2.2 GHz octa-core CPU, and an Adreno 512 GPU. Moreover, it has 6 GB of RAM by default, there are no other options.

Storage is 128 GB, though it can be expanded by up to 256 GB via V11’s dedicated microSD slot. It also has dual SIM support thanks to its triple slotted tray, that lets you use a storage card alongside two SIM cards at a time.

Camera & Software

Vivo’s new midranger has a vertical dual camera array on the rear. The main rear camera is a 12 MP f/1.8 sensor that works alongside a 5 MP f/2.4 depth sensor – this set up was previously seen in Vivo X21 and Vivo NEX S. Other than that, it has a 25 MP f/2.0 lens on the front for selfies.

However, the V11’s camera set up does not have any sort of stabilization technology, such as OIS or EIS. Of course, it has AI support for selfies, and a face unlock feature, called Face Access, to pair with the under-display fingerprint sensor.

As for the software, it will run the company’s Funtouch OS 4.5 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. The operating system also has an AI assistant Jovi, that also uses machine learning to allocate resources based on your usage to optimize battery life and performance.

Battery, Price, & Availability

Moving on to the battery, the V11 will come with a 3400 mAh unit that has 18W quick charge capability. Unfortunately, the charging port is a microUSB instead of the latest Type-C version. It will be launched in Starry Night and Nebula colors.

No word on pricing as of yet, though the manufacturer is expected to hold an event in Pakistan soon.
