OnePlus to Launch a Smart TV Next Year

OnePlus is gearing up to diversify its product line with the launch of its first smart TV. The TV will be available in 2019, though, a specific time frame is not known as of yet.

OnePlus’ first big venture outside of smartphones will, in 2019 fashion, will come with pre-requisite smart TV functions. The news was announced by Pete Lau, the company’s CEO on OnePlus forums. “We want to bring the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity,” he wrote on the OnePlus forums. He continued,

To do this, we are building a new product of OnePlus’ premium flagship design, image quality and audio experience to more seamlessly connect the home.

Mr. Lau also asked suggestions on the features users would like to see, alongside the names they’d prefer. (You can suggest “TV McTVface” if you like.)

Possible Features

He was quoted saying that he’d like an addition of a smart assistant on the television. It should come with 4K resolution, though, it could change. 4K HDR capability has become the de-facto standard for a lot of mainstream TV manufacturers like Sony, TCL, Samsung and LG.

The television would better integrate internet connectivity features, as well as better connectivity with a phone. The price could be a level lower than traditional TVs, though, it is mere speculation at this point. At this point, nothing is finalized by OnePlus yet, so don’t get your hopes up.

OnePlus 6T

Meanwhile, OnePlus’s first priority for now will be the launch of its mid-year flagship, the 6T. We know the phone will launch without a heaphone jack and with an in-display fingerprint scanner, with a Snapdragon 845 and 6-8GB RAM at the very least.

The phone will help OnePlus bring the fight to mid-year releases from Apple, Huawei and others.
