Android Pie Firmware Reveals 4 Galaxy S10 models

Samsung is set to launch its upcoming flagship, the much-awaited Galaxy S10 in the coming months.

As it nears its launch, leaks and rumors have already started surfacing. People at XDA-Developers, a well-known name in the Android smartphone community just found out that Samsung is launching four different variants for the S10 – interestingly, only one of the variants will have 5G support.

This was found out in Android Pie firmware files, in which entries for four models – “beyond 0”, “beyond 1”, “beyond 2”, and “beyond 2 5G” were discovered.

Note that “beyond” is the codename for Galaxy S10. The four phones will probably launch with Android P out of the box, so it’s expected for early software files to have entries related to the upcoming Samsung flagship.

Samsung is likely to launch three main variants – much like Apple’s iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max – with one of the higher-end one’s to have 5G support.

Expected Specifications

The firmware files above don’t contain anything other than the model numbers in the filenames. In the filenames, the numbers represent the size of the device. Experts at XDA have summarized their findings as follows:

  • beyond0 – Samsung Galaxy S10, a 5.8-inch display, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and single rear camera.
  • beyond1 – Samsung Galaxy S10, a 5.8-inch display and dual rear cameras.
  • beyond2 – Samsung Galaxy S10+, a 6.44-inch display and triple rear cameras and double front-facing camera.
  • beyond2 5G – Samsung Galaxy S10+, the same as beyond 2, but with 5G support.

As for other specs, the phones are likely to come with next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon (likely 855) and Exynos chipsets. The 5G model will have a different 5G-enabled processor, and will likely launch within South Korean when the country makes 5G services public.

Samsung has already started developing software for these devices, as seen in the firmware files. However, this does not confirm whether all four of the devices will actually get released.
