Oppo’s Realme 2 and C1 Are a Direct Challenge to Xiaomi

Oppo’s sub-brand Realme has officially launched its third smartphone called Realme 2 Pro, as well as another entry-level Realme C1.

Realme is a budget-focused brand that competes with Xiaomi’s Redmi series, as well as other Mi Note phones.

Realme 2 Pro is a midrange phone that is powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC. The company’s second launch today, the C1 is Realme’s cheapest phone yet, with an aggressive price of just $96 (~Rs. 12,000) to compete with Xiaomi Redmi 6A.

Let’s check out their specifications in detail:

Design & Display

Realme 2 Pro

Realme 2 Pro Front Back

Realme 2 Pro has a 6.3-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with a cool waterdrop notch design. Realme, for some reason, calls it a dewdrop notch instead.

There’s a horizontal dual camera array on the rear with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The overall design is minimal, with a metal frame and plastic finish on the back, which explains the phone’s price.

Realme C1

Moving on to the lower-end Realme C1, it has a 6.2-inch IPS LCD instead with a notch as well. It’s got to be one of the cheapest notch display phones out there, though the resolution has been kept at 720 x 1520 pixels (HD+).

Realme C1 Front Back

The bottom chin is slightly thick with a plastic frame and a plastic finish on the back to keep the price low. The fingerprint sensor is absent on this one.

Hardware & Storage

Realme 2 Pro

Realme 2 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset that pairs with an Adreno 512 GPU. RAM options for the midranger are 4, 6, or 8 GB.

Storage options are 128 or 64 GB, however, you are restricted to buy the 128 GB model with 8 GB RAM, while the 64 GB storage variant can be purchased with either 4 or 6 GB RAM. Luckily, it has a dedicated microSD slot to expand storage by up to 256 GB.

Realme C1 Specs

The low end Realme C1 packs a Snapdragon 450 instead, that is an entry-level chipset with moderate performance and low battery consumption. This chipset works with an Adreno 506 instead.

RAM is restricted to 2 GB, with just 16 GB internal storage. Again, storage won’t be a problem as long as you have a microSD card, which you can plug into Realme C1’s dedicated card slot (up to 256 GB).

Camera & Software

Realme 2 Pro

The interesting bit is Realme 2 Pro’s rear dual cameras. It has a 16 MP f/1.7 sensor and a secondary 2 MP depth sensor for portrait mode pictures. The front camera has been kept at 16 MP, that has a f/2.0 aperture.

Realme 2 Pro Front Camera

It’s a decent setup, though the company did not mention whether the phone has any AI beautification features, so you might need to reconsider if you want it in your smartphone.

Realme C1

Impressively, Realme C1 also has two cameras on the rear with a 13 MP f/2.2 primary shooter and a secondary 2 MP f/2.4 depth sensor. On the front, it has a generic 5 MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture.

HDR, panorama, LED flash, and other essential features are all present.

Battery, Price, & Availability

Realme 2 Pro has a non-removable 3500 mAh battery and is available in Black, Deep Blue, and Light Blue colors. It uses a microUSB 2.0 port instead of Type-C, so watch out for that if you need a reversible connector. There’s no fast charging in both phones either.

Price is pretty decent for Realme 2 Pro, starting at just INR 13,990 (~Rs. 24,000) for 4/64 GB, INR 15,990 (~Rs. 27,000) for 6/64 GB, and INR 17,990 (~Rs. 30,500) for 8/128 GB memory.

Realme C1 has a bigger 4230 mAh battery instead. Color options are Black and Blue, with pricing starting at INR 7,000 (~Rs. 11,900).

Both phones will hit the market on 11th October and will be the first Realme phones to get a global launch outside of India. We might need to wait for Realme to arrive in Pakistan.
