One of the biggest hurdles for every Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise has been to convince their foreign players to travel to Pakistan for the matches.
Last year, Quetta Gladiator suffered a devastating blow after their main players such as Kevin Pietersen and Shane Watson refused to travel to Pakistan to play the eliminators.
This, paired with weak squad depth, resulted in Quetta Gladiator’s exit from the main stage. Talking about it, the owner of Nadeem Omar said:
When your main top players are not here then it is very difficult for you to win the final. New arrivals were not gelled as they had arrived only hours before the final. This was a big letdown for us. We had a golden chance to win two titles, we could have [won] if we had our full strength available.
He further claimed that he remains hopeful for PSL 2019 and claims that arrival of other prominent stars such as AB de Villiers will help convince the likes of Shane Watson to come to Pakistan.
When Shane would see that the likes of AB and other top players are also visiting Pakistan then it would be easy to convince him to make a decision on visiting Pakistan with a positive nod.
Omar mentioned that Quetta has learned from its mistake and is not over-relying on the foreign players for PSL 2019.
