Telenor Becomes Pakistan’s First Network to Launch VoLTE

Leading a new era of communications with yet another industry first, Pakistan’s foremost digital and telecom services provider, Telenor Pakistan, has enabled VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology on its network.

Following the successful VoLTE trial that has already been conducted for its employees, Telenor Pakistan will soon be bringing the benefits of VoLTE to its diverse customer base.

VoLTE is a standards-based technology that is required to support voice calls over an LTE network which ensures high-quality voice using the advance IMS core solution. Through VoLTE, consumers will be able to make calls via 4G data network, instead of switching to 2G or 3G network, which means that in addition to better voice quality, users will also be able to use voice and data at the same time, have instant call connection between VoLTE calls and significantly reduce call connection between VoLTE as compared to non-VoLTE users on traditional calls.

VoLTE eliminates the need for a traditional legacy network, moving towards advance protocols and rich applications to be developed on top.

Telenor Pakistan’s VoLTE solution is developed on an OpenSource platform and has been customized and developed in-house. The platform is deployed on the DevOps model and uses crowdsourcing way of work, hiring top talent across the globe for state of the art development. This will enable Telenor Pakistan to offer tailored solutions to its customers as well as provide add-on services to them with efficiency and agility.

Khurrum Ashfaque, Chief Technology Officer, Telenor Pakistan, expressed his excitement on the completion of successful VoLTE project and linked this to the development of technological innovation within the country. He added,

Telenor Pakistan has always been a frontrunner in the growth of technology and innovation, introducing the country’s first 4.5G network and having a diverse portfolio of digital products. With total mobile subscriptions within the country crossing the 150 million mark, it has become imperative for organizations such as Telenor Pakistan to come up with viable and efficient solutions that help our consumers save time and get more value for money. With VoLTE, we hope to bring Pakistan into a new era of technological innovation by enabling our customers to fully reap the benefits of flawless communication.

Telenor Pakistan will soon be integrating VoLTE on all of its 4G Infinity handsets and will continue to work with other handset manufacturers in order to bring an improved calling experience over LTE for the first time to the people of Pakistan.

  • Most of the phones in Pakistan would require an update from the manufacturer to enable Telenor VoLTE even being a VoLTE compatible phones.

  • BUT AS LONG AS YOU ARE CALLING TO ANY OTHER NETWORK AND ANY OF YOUR FRIEND WHO DON’T OWN A 4G HANDSET NOTHING IS IN THERE FOR YOU SO I THINK TO THAT TIME WHEN EVERY OTHER NETWORK PROVIDER WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE VOLTE SERIVCES VOLTE IS USELESS .

    • Thats totally incorrect :) …. VoLTE does’t work like that. U can even call on Landline while u r on VoLTE.

      • He’s not wrong. If you have VoLTE enabled, but you call someone who’s only in 2G/3G coverage area, it won’t be a VoLTE call.

  • Well done Telenor. I was of a view that zong will launch it first in Pakistan they are already a year late and now even they cant cliam to be the first one.

  • Telenor 4g, remain within 200-500KB of speed, and some times its worst abt 150KB.
Ab aise mai Volte ka kia faida. Lolx

    • imagine you are not even giving better voice service over GSM network & you blasts VoLTE.
and yes! this is the fact that if both of ends are not enabling VoLTE service than how could you are thinking to get good voice quality.

  • Seriously? Telenor has become worst of all operators in terms of voice and data quality. It takes ages to connect a call and voice quality has become pathetic. LTE coverage is spotty and speed hardly crosses 4-7 Mbps barrier most of the time.

  • Bad voice calling and in internet but telenor given free mb everyday for social user’s. Ufone is blocked my double number sim and no 3G here

  • Guys! Leave all these bullshits …. Telenor does not even have a quality of internet services … i mean look at to their data services … its not less then a nightmare …i even dont understand these show off… for what?? . your are launching voice over LTE, while throughput on LTE per users is getting worse day by day.. why not to fix this… where is that quality of your services which created a high standard for other to compete.
Secondly, VoLTE / VoWiFi and Data over WiFi, these kind of project are implemented in those countries where you see business potential, I mean how many handsets in pakistan have these features. how many corporate sectors demand for these services . How much efforts you placed to bring users/corporate for these technologies .

Dont Show off … its not some thing new… focus on your existing services that you are providing and bring improvement in that.
