Previous Govt Bought Train Engines Worth Rs. 300 Million for Rs. 680 Million

The federal minister for Railways, Sheikh Rasheed, has lashed out at the previous government for making massive corruption in the locomotive purchases. He made this claim on Wednesday while talking to media in Islamabad.

Railways minister claimed that the PML-N government purchased a locomotive for Rs. 680 million while its actual price was Rs. 300 million.

“Rest of the money went into the pockets of the authorities responsible,” he said.

Sheikh Rasheed stated that he was making efforts to bring back maximum coaches on track and that he was going to upgrade several coaches to make them usable again.

The Railways minister further informed media that Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the Thal Express on March 12, adding that the train service will have air-conditioned coaches.

The minister also said that all the trains are going to have a tracker system from next month.

A youngster has gifted the tracker for trains; it will help to identify the location of the train.

Sheikh Rasheed said that Thal Express will cover different cities including Multan, Kot addu, Layyah, Mianwali, Kundian, Rawalpindi, etc.

The Railways minister also announced that the Jinnah Express – between Peshawar and Karachi – will be inaugurated on March 23.

He also claimed to convert Pakistan Railways into a model institution in one year and said the department will start generating handsome revenue.
