Gas Shortfall Hits Punjab’s CNG Stations and Industries

The gas crisis has hit Punjab once again as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has discontinued gas supply to CNG stations, industries and fertilizer companies.

The decision to halt gas supply was taken due to the shortage of gas in the system, an SSGC spokesperson said on Monday. He promised that they will resume the supply as soon as the situation gets better.

Gas Crisis in Sindh & Balochistan

The situation is no different in Sindh and Balochistan, as major parts of the Industrial Area, especially textile units in Karachi –Pakistan’s economic hub – is closed due to the recent shortfall.

The gas shortage and low-pressure has crippled the production in six zones including– FB Area, SITE, North Karachi, Port Qasim, Korangi and Landhi.

In a separate statement, an SSG spokesperson said that Sindh produces 2800-3000 mmcfd against its consumption of 1500 mmcfd.

SSGC gets 1100-1200 mmcfd gas from Sindh, out of which 300-400 MMCFD gas is supplied to industries, 150-200 mmcfd to CNG sector and 300-350 mmcfd gas to domestic and commercial consumers in the province, he said.

The spokesperson added that another 300-400 mmcfd gas was supplied to IPPs as well.
