Until now, foldable smartphones were a fantasy but thanks to Samsung and Huawei’s persistence in the field, this is now becoming a reality. The two companies have both been working on releasing their foldable phones for years now. Samsung’s iteration, the Galaxy Fold, will be available for purchase in a month and Huawei Mate X will be available in the market around June.
Even though this breakthrough technology is making news day and night, unfortunately, the phones come with a hefty price tag. Samsung Galaxy fold will cost $1980 and Huawei Mate X will cost $2580, putting both of these phones out of reach for the masses.
However, according to the senior VP of BOE (display maker), Zhang Yu the prices will drop to $1500 by 2021. This sounds promising because they are working on developing smarter and cheaper flexible screen panels.
Both the Mate X and Galaxy Fold boast high-end specifications. Samsung Galaxy Fold comes with a 7.3-inch tall main screen and a tiny 4.6-inch outside the main screen. It will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 in combination with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. A triple sensor rear camera and 4,380 mAh battery have also been included.
On the other hand, Huawei Mate X features an 8-inch main screen along with two other 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch orientations. It is powered by the company’s own Kirin 980 chipset in combination with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB built-in memory. The phone features triple sensor cameras as well that double as selfie and rear cameras. It has a dual battery with a combined 4,500 mAh capacity.
