Facebook Officially Launches Dark Mode for Messenger

Facebook has rolled out a dark mode for its Messenger app globally. The feature was introduced in 2018 for select users in a few countries.

You won’t need to send the crescent moon emoji through the Easter egg activation method to turn on this mode. From now on, the users can enable the mode via a toggle in their settings. All they need to do is tap their profile photo.

The dark mode turns the chat display from white to black, reducing the glare and making it suitable for use in low-light situations.

According to Google, the dark mode on Android phones can help save battery, as phones with an OLED display use less battery when displaying dark/black colors, though many users choose it for aesthetic reasons as well. Some other apps also offer a dark mode, such as YouTube and Twitter.

If you are unable to find the option to switch to dark mode right away, update the app or wait for a day or two. iOS and Android devices are getting the feature today.
