PM Makes Major Changes in Ministers’ Portfolios as 3 New Faces Join the Cabinet

In an unprecedented move, Prime Minister Imran Khan has reshuffled his cabinet with some big changes. The biggest of them all is the removal of Asad Umar as Finance Minister as Abdul Hafeez Sheikh will now be the Finance Adviser for Pakistan government.

The new portfolios are listed below:

Portfolio
Finance – Adviser Abdul Hafeez Sheikh
Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry
Information and Broadcasting – SAPM Firdous Ashiq Awan
Aviation Ghulam Sarwar
Interior Ijaz Ahmed Shah
States and Frontier Regions Shehryar Afridi
Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan Swati
National Health Services – SAPM Dr. Zafarullah Mirza
Petroleum Division – SAPM Nadeem Babar

Former Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry, has been named Federal Minister for Science and Technology, while Shehryar Afridi will now hold the office of Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions. His previous post, State Minister for Interior, will now be handled by Brig (r) Ijaz Ahmed Shah.

Azam Khan Swati, who was earlier asked to step down as Federal Minister for Science and Technology, will be the new Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.

Three new faces will assist the incumbent government as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister. These include Nadeem Babar (Petroleum Division), Dr. Zafarullah Mirza (National Health Services) and Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan (Information and Broadcasting).

The new appointments are now under criticism as most of the ministries are now controlled by ex-PPP and Musharaf aides.
