Kylian Mbappe starred in Paris St-Germain’s victory over AS Monaco and led them to their 6th league title victory in seven years and 8th overall.
The historical PSG win came on the day of tribute to Norte Dame cathedral, where the players wore shirts with their names replaced by ‘Norte Dame’.
Mbappe continued his stellar form this season, netting a third after the break for his 30th of the season, to put the match far out of reach for Monaco despite Aleksandr Golovin pulling one back for the visitors.
Following the match, Mbappe played down rumours he might leave the club for Real Madrid after Zinedine Zidane took over for his second stint as manager at the Bernabeu. He said:
Zidane’s return to Real Madrid? Good for them if Zizou is back – I will tune in to their matches as an admirer. I am here, and I am invested in the PSG project.
The victory also featured the return of their £200m star player, Neymar, who recently recovered from another metatarsal injury.
In a yet another dominant league campaign, PSG registered only three losses and lead by 16 points with five games to go.
The victory marks PSG’s 8th overall since their maiden victory in 1986. However, the Thomas Tuchel-led team failed to improve their European run after being knocked out to Manchester United in last 16 of Champions League.
Despite that, PSG could win the double this season when they face Stade Rennais in the French Cup final next Saturday.
