Nokia 8110 4G Can Now Run WhatsApp and Facebook

It has been more than a year since HMD global released the modern era version of the classic slider phone Nokia 8810. The original phone was launched in 1988 and was revived last year on the 20th anniversary of HMD Global.

Consumers of this retro Nokia phone, also known as the ‘banana phone’ have been calling for WhatsApp support from day one. Since, the phone runs on KaiOS – Linux based operating system based on Firefox OS – getting WhatsApp was trickier than just asking users to download it from the Play Store like in Android-based smartphones.

WhatsApp in Nokia 8110 4G V15 was made available in India last month and now via a firmware update, WhatsApp and Facebook are being made globally available. The firmware update with version number 15.00.17.03 carrying 35 MB weight is seeding right now. Once installed, users will be able to install both the applications from the Kai Store.

There is a Catch

Since Nokia 8110 4G is not your regular smartphone, there are a few limitations which are understandable considering the hardware specifications of the phone. Users will be able to send and receive pictures and videos but voice calls, voice messages, and video calls are out of the picture.

They cannot view people’s profile pictures and the option of setting witty statuses is also stripped off. You will have to go with the boring, “Hey there! I’m using WhatsApp” forever.

Nokia 8110 4G Hardware Specifications

The banana phone features Snapdragon 205 SoC supported by 512 MB RAM and 4 GB built-in storage. It comes with a 2.4 inches TFT display, 1500 mAh battery, and 2 MP camera. The phone does support YouTube, Google Maps and Google search.

  • This is not news. This is propagating the agenda of Nokia when you took money from them to report their phones and Samsung did not pay you to do the same.

  • Huawei is Better,
Nokia always promote Symian instead of Android,
They have few models in quantity on Android..
