Motorola Razr is The Best Foldable Smartphone Yet

Motorola has updated its original Razr flip phone from 2004 and has succeeded in manufacturing a relatively reasonable foldable phone that not only doubles the screen size when unfolded but is also small and slim enough to comfortably fit inside a pocket. Apart from this, Motorola has also solved the ‘visible gap’ conundrum i.e. when the smartphone is folded, it does not have a visible gap between the two halves, nor does it have a crease.

This Android smartphone brings a modern tweak to Motorola’s iconic flip phone. Let’s take a look at the details.

Design and Display

The smartphone comes with a design heavily inspired by the Motorola Razr from 2004 except there is a larger display on the outside. The big chin has not been ditched and now houses the fingerprint sensor and a USB Type-C port.

The main display is a 6.2-inch P-OLED panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio and 2142 x 876 pixels resolution. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, the Motorola Razr unfolds vertically and can be used as a regular phone instead of a phablet.

For seamless folding, the smartphone comes with two stainless steel hinges underneath the flexible display. It also comes with nano-coating for splash resistance.

The quick view display on the outside is a 2.69-inch LCD with 800 x 600 pixels resolution. This display can be used for basic tasks like responding to messaging, declining calls, viewing notifications, etc.

Internal and Storage

Internally, the smartphone features mid-range specifications. It comes with a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 SoC at the helm topped with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB onboard storage. According to the company, the toned-down processor is used in order to optimize battery life.

On the software front, the phone runs on a near-stock version of Android 9.0 Pie. Motorola is also working with Google to let apps seamlessly transition from the quick view to the main display.

Another interesting feature that made its way to Motorola Razr is its four microphones. It also has a bottom-positioned speaker. The smartphone does not come with a headphone jack and has also ditched the SD Card slot. Other than this, it has all the basic connectivity features like e-SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, and USB-C.

Cameras

Unfortunately, camera-wise, the Motorola Razr does not sport anything exciting. There is an outdated notch on the foldable display that houses a 5 MP single sensor for selfies in unfolded mode. Moreover, there is a 16 MP single shooter with a dual-LED flash under the quick view. This can be used as a rear camera as well as a selfie camera.

Battery and Pricing

The smartphone is powered by a 2150 mAh battery backed by 15W TurboPower charging. It will be available for pre-order by 26^th December and will set users back by $1,499. The shipments will start on 9^th January.
