At a launch event in China today, Xiaomi’s subsidiary Redmi launched its most anticipated smartphones, the Redmi K30 5G and Redmi K30 4G alongside the Redmibook 13, the Company’s first router, and the Redmi smart speaker.
Apart from featuring top-notch specifications, the Redmi K30 duo is easily the cheapest smartphone to offer a 120 Hz refresh rate. It is also the first Redmi smartphone to come with a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor. The best part is, Redmi K30 4G, despite being slightly toned down, has the same high-end specifications. The only difference between the two is the SoC.
Without further ado, let’s look at the details.
Design and Display
Design-wise, the Redmi K30 pair comes with elements slightly similar to the Nokia Lumia 1020 which was launched in 2013. Even though the Quad-sensor rear camera is vertically stacked on a rectangular aisle in the center, there is a circular pattern around it that takes us back to the Lumia days. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the right and doubles as a power button.
The Redmi K30 5G will be available in four colors: Pink, Blue, White, and light purple, while the Redmi K30 4G will be available in Pink, Blue and purple color.
Both smartphones are built around a 6.67-inch display with a pill-shaped punch-hole for a dual-sensor selfie camera, which seems to be a step back from the K20’s bezel-less AMOLED display. The display has extremely narrow side bezels, features 1080p resolution and has an impressive 120 Hz refresh rate. Apart from this, both phones feature a tall 20:9 aspect ratio and 91% screen to body ratio.
Internal and Storage
Internally, the 5G variant is powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor topped with 6 GB or 8 GB RAM and 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB onboard storage. The Redmi K30 4G, on the other hand, comes with Snapdragon 730G at the helm, and it features the same memory variants. Both the smartphones support dual-sim slots and run on MIUI 11 skinned Android 10.
As far as the connectivity features are concerned, the 5G variant comes with dual-band 4G/5G support (SA/NSA) along with the integration of 5G Multilink and smart features. The 5G smart feature is responsible for ensuring lower power usage while maintaining efficiency and performance. Apart from this, both phones feature NFC, 5G GPS, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack.
Cameras
At the back, the Redmi K30 5G features a qual-sensor camera with a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 as the main sensor, topped with f/1.89 aperture, 1/1.7-inch sensor, and 6P lens. The main sensor is joined by a 5 MP macro lens, 2 MP depth sensor and 8 MP ultra-wide sensor with 120 degrees FOV. The Redmi K30 4G has the same camera configuration except the 5 MP macro lens is replaced by a 2 MP macro lens.
At the front, both smartphones pack a dual-sensor selfie camera with a 20 MP main sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor specifically added for better portraits.
Battery and Pricing
Both smartphones feature the same battery capacity i.e. 4500 mAh. The Redmi K30 5G however, supports 30W fast charging while the Redmi K30 4G comes with 27W of fast charging, the difference should be insignificant.
