Islamabad United Appoints Youngest Ever Captain in PSL History

Islamabad United has announced its new captain for the 2020 edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Pakistani all-rounder, Shadab Khan, will be leading the most successful PSL franchise, having won the premier T20 event twice in four years.

Islamabad United has a knack of promoting youngsters having introduced players like Sahibzada Farhan, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Asif Ali and Hussain Talat, who have already graduated to play at the international level.

The 21-year-old will be replacing Mohammad Sami as the captain of the team. Former Islamabad United captain, Sami went unsold in the draft after he was released by his franchise.

Shadab was the vice-captain for Islamabad United in PSL 2019 where the team finished 3rd. The star all-rounder hopes that he can the trophy for his team:

Islamabad United has made me what I am today, and I hope to repay the faith they have invested me in for so many years. I know what it takes to win the PSL, and working with Misbah bhai I am sure that we can challenge for the trophy again.

Islamabad United owner, Ali Naqvi, has reiterated his resolve to groom youngsters.

We always focus on developing our Pakistani players across all disciplines – cricket playing ability, general physical and mental fitness, and leadership skills. It’s one of the remits we have given to our coaches and managers that Islamabad United should be a graduating school for the national team.
