Xiaomi Redmi 8A Dual Launched With Updated Design & Cameras

The Xiaomi Redmi 8A was launched back in September and for a budget phone, has impressive specifications and a good starting point for people looking to buy an entry-level smartphone. Today, Xiaomi has updated the lineup with the launch of the Redmi 8A Dual that offers some minor upgrades over the original.

Design and Display

The form factor is the same as the Redmi 8A, it has a 6.22-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution (720 x 1520) and Gorilla Glass 5.

The back, although plastic, now comes with an Aura XGrip design which offers a grippy texture and is less prone to fingerprints and smudges. This time around the phone is also splash-proof, protected by P2i. There is the new dual-camera setup on the back as well, with a flashlight on top and the Redmi branding.

Color options include Midnight Grey, Sea Blue, and Sky White.

Internals and Storage

Internally the Redmi 8A Dual comes with the same configuration as the Redmi 8A. It has an entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset along with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 505, which should serve just fine for casual gaming. Storage is limited to just 32GB but that can be expanded via microSD card.

Cameras

The biggest change is in the camera setup and resolution. The Redmi 8A Dual now comes with a dual-camera setup on the back. The main unit is a 13MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture while the secondary camera uses a 2MP sensor with an f/2.4 aperture, a single flashlight resides on top of the two cameras. It can also record videos at 30fps on both 1080p and 720p resolution.

 

 

The front camera remains the same with an 8MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture.

Battery and Pricing

As far as the battery is concerned, the device is powered by a huge 5,000 mAh battery and it also supports 18W fast charging via the USB Type C port, although the box only includes a 10W charger. The Redmi 8A Dual also supports reverse charging so it can double up as an emergency power bank for other devices.

The 2GB+32GB variant has been priced at $91 (~Rs. 14,111) and the 3GB+32GB variant goes for $98 (~Rs. 15,200).
