Higher Education Commission (HEC) has directed all universities and accredited institutions with sufficient resources to start online classes.
Following the outbreak of Coronavirus in Pakistan, the government ordered the closure of schools, colleges, and universities across the country.
According to an official notification, HEC has asked all universities which have well-built learning management systems (LMS) to initiate online classes. This way, education will not be compromised.
Moreover, universities facing technological, technical, or spatial limitations can remain closed for academic activities till 31 May 2020 and mark the said period as summer vacation, HEC has clarified.
In the meantime, these universities shall make arrangements for conducting online classes in case the closure is extended because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the notification stated.
Such universities shall plan, acquire, train, and shall be able to execute an LMS from June 01, 2010, so that ongoing semester could resume even in an eventuality of the extended closure of universities.
Expressing his views on the development, HEC Chairman Dr. Tariq Banuri said:
We don’t know how long the restrictions will stay in place. The experience of other countries is quite varied. If the restrictions get lifted on June 1, the teaching will take place face to face. In the meantime, it will only be online.
Steps to Ensure the Quality of Online Learning
HEC has taken several steps to make sure that the students are imparted with quality education during the closure, instituting a technical support committee (TSC) to help universities’ staff adapt to the online mode of education.
In the coming weeks, HEC will also set up a National Knowledge Bank (NKB) aiming to provide students and teachers access to a wide variety of academic resources.
The commission has tasked National Academy for Higher Education (NAHE) to recommend online tutorials to increase the skills of the teachers imparting online education.

Semester should not be extended…while the LMS should be improved where students are facing many problems…and the students who are not having the facility of internet they should be provided the internet so they can also take online classes
Respected HEC Commission, I have to say that all five fingers are not equal. In same way each student’s status is not same. We are facing many problems in regards to online classes.
I feel very sorry when I asks my father to give me some money for the purpose of online classes, because they are now at home.
Moreover I don’t have any interest connection and don’t know that how many students are suffering from this.
And online classes didn’t give us satisfaction.
So please, on Behalf of deserving Students , I request you to cancel Online classes as early as possible.

This is not good step because the students of ex-Fata has no internet facilities as well as some Districts of KPK and Southern Punjab.
Sir if we are talking about theory classes so those are fine that can be easily done through online classes but sir what about practical.
Sir as I’m student of electrical engineering and most of our lab’s can only be performed through training kits. So sir please do something about these problems. And not only electrical engineers are facing these problems but every single engineering discipline is facing the same problem and even worse then these. And other disciplines too.

There is a huge difference between online classess and uni classess because in the uni there are discussionss querriesS etc but online is just an audio clip nothing else … Most of the students who live in gilgit chitral dera ismail khan and other areas have no access to internet .. so it is not useful in that case as well…

Many of the students in my university are from FATA where the internet does not working and I am also belong to Mohmand agency,so if you give attention to this problem ,this will be very good for us.
Obviously what other option we have left? Students shouldn’t waste their time and keep busy with their studies.

But tell about those students which are belongin from lower/middle class.mostly of them had hardly payed the university fees and now they were thrown into the online system and they are going to pay the extra internet pakages.
And also tell me what about there parents who are kept in homes due to lockdown how would they earn the money from and to pay there children expenses and their families.

What’s about the students who live in remote areas of the country and they do not have high speed internet facility. It is complete injustice for those students so please stop online classes.

Online classes are just useless. Many people doesn’t have good internet facility and laptop/Pc etc. Also many students belongs to rural areas of the country where internet access is not available and speed is also very low. These online classes just effects our grades in exams and we can’t properly understand topics and clear our concepts in online system. It is a matter of education not entertainment,so (( HEC )) kindly review your decision regarding this and give us semester break which would be a good decision in student’s interest. [ THANKS ]

Online classes are not effective for learning. Many students face the problem of internet signal. Online classes should be ended.

Honorable Dr. Tariq Banure let me tell you the reliance on the PTCL analog Dhobi Ghat Tar cable network will not be able to support a single user of the project.
This would a complete upgradation of the network on PON/FTTH reccomendations of the ITU. The honorable Universal Service Fund (USF) the PTA jointly should make sure to recommend/facilitate and make it happen for the PON/FTTH network to the places you’re planning the project to happen.
The USF invests in the upgradation of the PON/FTTH to major location in which your will be on highest priority to develop at no cost from the GOP for USF.
PTCL will only put 5 meter cable to the Building thats it.
The other option is to wait for the 5G which is a major investment from the Govt., but the PON/FTTH has been financed by the USF todate.

Assalam u alaikum.
We appreciate the efforts of HEC for conducting online classes through LMS.
But the problem is most of the students are belonging from rural areas and they lack internet facilities.And also some people have other electricity issues.
So tell us how we would be managing this electronic system.
Another issues is that we had paid All the semester fees which are 1lac 40 thousand rupees.
And now we are paying extra charges in the form of internet pakages.
Im Final Year student of civil engineering.
And we are about to take our accredation on OBE(outcome Base education).
So tell us how these criteria would be fullfill through this online system.
As we All know OBE is mostly based on labs activities and which are not going to be conduct in our homes.
Thats why please take some serious steps accordingly.
