The federal government has extended the deadline for electricity and gas bills by 3 months because of the ongoing countrywide lockdown to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.
According to Hafeez Shaikh, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, the federal government will bear the losses caused by late payment.
People do not have to pay their gas and electricity bills immediately. The government has set aside Rs. 1 billion to incur these losses.

The federal government had previously set the deadline of April 7 for paying electricity bills only.
Moreover, Hafeez Shaikh stated that the government has earmarked Rs. 70 billion to make up for the recent decline in petroleum prices.
Besides removing duties on food items, the government has bought wheat worth Rs. 200 billion to assist small scale farmers and landowners during the global crisis.
The finance adviser said that the government will do everything to avert contraction in the economy and is ready to spend Rs. 107 billion to refund businesses.
Rs. 30 billion will be given to the Drawback of Local Taxes and Levies (DLTL), Rs. 10 billion to sales tax for exporters, Rs. 52 billion will be spent on refund of sales tax, and Rs. 15 billion on duty drawback.
Hafeez Shaikh concluded that the federal government is in contact with all provincial governments and would do anything to assist them in this challenging time.
