Pakistan’s white-ball captain, Babar Azam, has been in fine form over the past couple of years. He has broken the majority of Pakistan’s batting records and has set yet another record in the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Babar played a brilliant match-winning knock of 82 against Zimbabwe in the first T20I and became the first Pakistani to score 1,000 T20 runs in two consecutive years. Babar added another half-century to his tally in the next match.

Babar Azam was the leading run-scorer in T20s last year with 1,607 runs, and he is leading the charts yet again with 1,114 runs to his name.
Shoaib Malik is the only other Pakistani batsman who has crossed the 1,000 runs mark in a calendar year more than once. He has done it thrice in his career, but he hasn’t been able to achieve the feat in consecutive years. Malik scored 1,030 runs in 2014, 1,082 in 2016 and 1,010 in 2019.
Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, and Imran Nazir have crossed 1,000 runs in a calendar year once in their careers.

Pakistan will play one more T20I against Zimbabwe, after which Babar will return to his duties with Karachi King in the PSL. Pakistan is also scheduled to play three T20Is on their tour to New Zealand in December which would provide Babar with ample opportunities to be the top scorer for the second year in a row.
