Pakistan’s Victory: OIC Passes Resolution Against India’s Occupation of Kashmir and Attack in Feb

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has unanimously adopted a resolution that condemns both India’s illegal annexation of illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and its moves to alter the demography of the Muslim-majority region.

Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, represented Pakistan at the 47th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Niamey, Niger, following which the Foreign Office (FO) released the details of the meeting, saying that the CFM has reaffirmed its support for the Kashmir cause.

“In a resolution adopted unanimously by the 47th session of the OIC in Niamey today, the CFM reaffirmed its strong support for the Kashmir cause,” the FO said.

The resolution rejected India’s ‘illegal and unilateral actions’ in the occupied valley since 5 August 2019, stating, “The [OIC] Resolution demands that India cancel the issuance of domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris as well as other unilateral and illegal actions, including ‘Jammu & Kashmir Reorganization Order 2020’, ‘Jammu & Kashmir Grant of Domicile Certificate Rules 2020’, ‘Jammu and Kashmir Language Bill 2020’ and amendments to the land ownership laws”.

Rejecting the policies of the ruling RSS-BJP regime, the 57-countries-strong Islamic organization asked India to withdraw the steps taken to change the existing demographic structure of the disputed territory.

“The OIC, in a comprehensive and strongly-worded resolution, rejected the illegal and unilateral actions taken by India in August last year to change the internationally recognized disputed status of the IIOJK, and demanded it to rescind its illegal steps,” the communique said.

The OIC demanded of the Modi-led Indian government to stop issuing domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris and also to restore Article 370.

In another major development, the OIC adopted a Pakistan-sponsored resolution calling on the UN Secretary-General to begin a global dialogue to counter rising Islamophobia and to promote interfaith harmony.

In a separate announcement, the FO revealed that the OIC has agreed to have the 48th annual session in Islamabad in 2021 to deliberate over the issue of Kashmir.
