KIA Motors to Have 11 Electric Cars in Its Lineup Within 5 Years

KIA has recently undergone a massive change in terms of brand image and has resolved to introduce a whole new bunch of cars amid the dawn of a new era. With the recent development of Hyundai Motor’s dedicated E-GMP platform, the Korean automotive giant is set to start the production of Electric Vehicles (EV).

Product Planning Director KIA, Pablo Martinez Masip, explained KIA’s plan and ambitions in an interview with CAR. He said,

KIA will have 11 electric models by 2025. We plan to have a full portfolio of electric vehicles – if governments go crazy and decide to have only EVs in 2025, KIA will be ready to be fully electric.

Masip added that, in the first three months of last year, almost one of every five KIA models sold in Europe was a plug-in hybrid or an all-electric vehicle. He further stated that KIA vows to sell 500,000 EVs and 1 million plug-in hybrid cars in 2025 – with the biggest regional sales in the area.

KIA has reportedly formulated a dedicated architecture that would enable them to fast-track the development of EVs in the days to come. Along with that, KIA has reportedly covered significant ground in terms of the development of 400-volt to 800-volt powertrain setups that would be featured in a variety of passenger cars in the lineup.

The said developments are reportedly all part of KIA’s “Plan S 5-year strategy,” which involves an investment of over $25 billion to pursue more technological prowess and sophistication, especially in the development of EVs. With the era of smart cars in sight, KIA is all geared up to make a huge splash in the automotive market.
