Numerous New Faces Likely to Feature in T20I Squad Against South Africa

Opening batsman, Sharjeel Khan, and middle-order batsman, Azam Khan, are highly likely to be included in Pakistan’s T20I squad for the series against South Africa.

Sharjeel Khan has been impressive in the recently concluded Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and is currently putting in exceptional performances in the ongoing Pakistan One Day Cup. Meanwhile, Azam Khan has made a reputation as a power-hitter in various T20 leagues.

Azam rose to prominence in PSL 5 for playing solid knocks in the middle-overs for Quetta Gladiators. He carried his form in the National T20 Cup and the recently concluded Lanka Premier League for the Galle Gladiators. He is likely to make his debut for Pakistan in the upcoming series.

Sharjeel Khan, on the other hand, has not represented Pakistan since 2017 after he was found guilty of spot-fixing in the Pakistan Super League. He is likely to be recalled in a revamped squad.

Other rumored inclusions in the squad are the opener, Zeeshan Malik, and leg-spinner, Zahid Mehmood. Zeeshan Malik has proved himself to be a solid opener in the National T20 Cup and piled on runs and for the Pakistan Shaheens in the recent tour of New Zealand.

Zahid Mehmood has been in sublime form, picking up wickets in all three formats in the domestic circuit. He is likely to replace vice-captain, Shadab Khan, who has been ruled out of the series due to an injury.

Iftikhar Ahmed and Khusdhil Shah are the two players that are rumored to be dropped from the squad after failing to impress the selectors with their recent performances.

The three-match T20I series between Pakistan and South Africa is set to take place at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on 11, 13, and 14 February.
