Govt to Vaccinate 100,000 Individuals Daily

The Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, has announced that over 100,000 individuals will be administered the coronavirus vaccine every day in Pakistan.

The minister tweeted that around 40,000 frontline healthcare workers were inoculated on day one of the vaccination program, and over 100,000 people will receive the shot in the upcoming days.

He added that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will also be available in the country after a few weeks.

Pakistan is using the China-made Sinopharm vaccine to inoculate healthcare workers in the first phase of its vaccination program. Half a million doses of the vaccine were recently gifted to Pakistan by China.

The authorities distributed the vaccine across Pakistan in a secured environment under a security plan devised by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), under which Sindh received 84,000 doses, the Punjab 70,000, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 65,000, and Balochistan 10,300.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is amongst the four vaccines that have been approved for emergency use in Pakistan. The Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar, recently announced that Pakistan will receive its 17 million doses from COVAX within the first half of 2021.
