Faf du Plessis Joins Quetta Gladiators After Chris Gayle’s Exit

Former South African captain, Faf du Plessis, has arrived in Pakistan to take part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Faf was announced as the partial replacement by Quetta Gladiators for the departing West Indian opener, Chris Gayle.

Quetta will receive a much needed boost in the middle-order as Faf will be available for selection in their next match. Quetta have had a torrid start to the campaign, losing their first two matches, and are sitting at the bottom of the PSL points table.

Quetta announced the arrival of Faf on their social media accounts:

Faf recently announced his retirement from Test cricket but he will still continue to play T20Is and ODI cricket for South Africa. He was recently on tour with the South African team to Pakistan and looked to be out of touch, going cheaply in all the four innings of the two match Test series.

Quetta will be hoping that Faf will fire on all cylinders in their upcoming match against Peshawar Zalmi on 26 February.

Quetta have lost both their matches, suffering a thumping defeat at the hand of Lahore Qalandars in their latest outing. They have 8 matches remaining and will be hoping to kick start their campaign as soon as the next match. Have a look at Quetta’s PSL schedule here.

Faf will have some big shoes to fill in the absence of Chris Gayle. Gayle was in sublime touch in the two matches he played for the Gladiators, scoring one half-century and is currently the leading run-scorer of the tournament.
