Global Chip Shortage Affects Xiaomi and Realme

The semiconductor industry is suffering through one of the worst supply shortages in history. This has affected hardware makers ranging from smartphone companies, automakers, PC parts, and many others.

Major smartphone companies including Xiaomi and Realme have now brought everyone’s attention to the problem, commenting on the matter and calling it a major problem as well. This is because the global shortage has also affected Qualcomm’s supply of chips to the Chinese phone makers.

The shortage has led to a global rise in prices for chips as well as stock values. However, despite the supply constraints, the demand for semiconductors is still on a rise, making the deficit even worse.

Realme’s executive has said that these chips are completely out of stock and this is because of supply issues with materials, power supply, and radiofrequency devices as well. Xiaomi’s President Lu Weibing added that they are also facing an extreme shortage.

According to a source close to Qualcomm, the chip supply to phone makers has been delayed by 30 weeks and Bluetooth audio chips have been delayed by up to 33 weeks. This has caused phone makers like OnePlus, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo to raise their stocks for smartphone components, which is making the situation even worse.
