Previously,  Akmal was banned for three years by the Pakistan Cricket Board after he failed to report approaches by bookies. However, the ban was reduced to 18 months after an appeal. His ban was further reduced to only twelve months as he decided to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 4.2 million.

According to sources, Akmal requested the PCB to allow him to pay his fine in installments as Akmal and his family are going through a financial crisis and cannot pay the fine in one go. Upon his request, PCB decided to analyze Akmal’s bank account details, which showed that Akmal is more than capable of paying a lump sum fine.

  • Umar Akmal deserves the boot……. for good.
Look at Pakistani keeping, we have probably the finest wicket keepers in World Cricket. Pakistan needs another batsman or two, to bolster Babar Azam and this team will be going places.
    No more Akmals please
