Pakistan’s leading fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, is one of the most overworked players in world cricket today. He has been playing cricket constantly ever since his debut for the national side in 2018.
The Pakistan team management has been heavily criticized for over-utilizing the services of Shaheen, with experts urging him to be rested every once in a while.

According to sources, Pakistan team management has been looking to rest Shaheen for the past couple of months, but the pacer himself has refused to sit on the bench. Shaheen was also advised by national team chief selector, Mohammad Wasim, to take some time off from cricket and give his body ample time to recover from the rigors of international cricket.
According to the statistics, Shaheen has bowled the most number of overs in international cricket for a fast bowler since the start of 2020. He has bowled 374.3 overs across all formats, while India’s Jasprit Bumrah has bowled the second most number of overs with 339.0.

Shaheen has been a crucial part of the national team set up in all formats, but his recent form has been slightly disappointing. He was not at his usual best in the recently concluded limited-overs series against South Africa, picking up only 9 wickets in 3 ODIs and 4 T20Is.
The team management is reported to be wary of Shaheen’s workload and will be looking to give him some time off in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe, with exciting youngsters set to be included in the line-up.
