Lockdown restrictions, in one form or another, will remain enforced until more than 70% of the total population gets vaccinated against the Coronavirus, SAPM on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, has revealed.
In a video message, the SAPM said the government will ease the lockdown restrictions as more and more citizens get vaccinated against the Coronavirus.
He noted the lockdown restrictions enforced by the government have proven effective in containing the third wave of Coronavirus, adding that the COVID-19 positivity rate all over the country, except for Sindh, has come down to 3.02%. The Coronavirus situation in Sindh remains dire as the province’s positivity rate stands at 7%.
In the last 24 hours, Pakistan has reported 1490 news cases against 49,285 tests and 58 deaths from Coronavirus.
The SAPM disclosed that 9.2 million doses of Coronavirus have been administered so far across the country. This places Pakistan among the world’s top 30 countries in terms of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered.
Pakistan has administered more COVID-19 vaccine doses than 165 countries including Australia, Switzerland, Portugal, and Belgium.
He also rejected the rumors which claimed that recipients of COVID-19 vaccines will die within 2 years and requested the public not to believe in misinformation against COVID-19 vaccines.
The safety and efficacy of every COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Drug and Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) have been evaluated before issuing Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).
So far, DRAP has approved 6 COVID-19 vaccines for use in the country. Three of them are Chinese vaccines developed by Sinopharm, CanSinoBIO, and Sinovac while the other three are Russia’s Sputnik V, AstraZeneca’s AZD1222, and Pfizer’s BNT162b2.
