Last time, Pakistan had jointly hosted an ICC event — the 1996 World Cup — with India and Sri Lanka. Since then, the global body has pulled out of hosting many stellar events in Pakistan, including the 2008 Champions Trophy and the 2011 World Cup events for security reasons.

After failing to host or co-host any world event for almost a decade, Pakistan is now showing interest in holding international cricket events in the 2024-2031 cycle while considering the domestic security situation which has improved a lot since then.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has notified its member countries to submit their expressions of interest for the underlined sporting events, to be duly assessed in December 2021 before a final decision is made by the beginning of next year.

In 2020, the PCB had initially asked its member countries to begin the process of submitting their bids. While it had shown definitive interest in this regard, the global governing body is yet to make any announcements to address the matter.
