A foreign airlines flight carrying 1 million doses of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine reached Islamabad International Airport earlier today.
According to details, the vaccine doses have been donated by COVAX, a global initiative aimed at equitable access to Coronavirus vaccines led by GAVI.

Recently, China supplied 10 million doses of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine and pledged $100 million to COVAX as part of its efforts to distribute vaccines to developing countries.
During a meeting with President Arif Alvi earlier this week, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong, revealed that 6 million doses of Sinopharm’s vaccine under the COVAX facility will arrive in Islamabad this week while China will provide a total of 100 million vaccine doses to Pakistan before the turn of the year.

So far, Pakistan has received 8.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the COVAX program. 5.5 million doses of Moderna, 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca, and 100,000 doses of Pfizer have been supplied to Pakistan under the COVAX program.
Earlier this week, the Federal Health Ministry said that 30 million more doses of Coronavirus vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and China will reach Pakistan in August. The announcement remains in line with the government’s target to vaccinate 80 million citizens against COVID-19 by the end of 2021.
