Uncertainty Looms Large as PCB Delays Squad Announcement for Afghanistan Series

Pakistan Cricket Board (PC) has decided to delay the national team camp for the ODI series against Afghanistan. The camp was initially scheduled to begin on Friday but the PCB has delayed it until the schedule of the series is finalized.

The three-match ODI series between the two nations was scheduled to commence from 3 September in Hambantota, Sri Lanka but the series could be delayed due to the uncertainty in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has still not confirmed their availability to the PCB and have failed to finalize the schedule of the series. According to sources, PCB will decide to hold the camp and announce their squad for the three-match series once the schedule has been finalized.

Pakistan will be without their star players, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, and Hasan Ali for the ODI series as they have decided to rest them ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup and historic series against New Zealand and England. Limited-overs vice-captain, Shadab Khan is expected to be appointed as the captain for the series against Afghanistan if it goes ahead as planned.

The three-match ODI series will be the first time in history that Pakistan and Afghanistan will face each other in a bilateral series. The two teams have previously played against each other seven times in ICC tournaments, with Pakistan winning all seven encounters.
