First Phase of SNC to Start from Current Academic Year

The Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, has announced that the first phase of the Single National Curriculum (SNC) for Grade Pre-1 through Grade 5 starting from the current academic year has been formulated under the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘One Nation-One Curriculum’.

He added that the second and third phases will be implemented in 2022-23 and 2023-24 respectively.

The SNC has been introduced in all the public and private educational institutions and madrassas of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Balochistan, the Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Minister Mahmood clarified that it will be implemented in Sindh after consultation with the provincial government.

He also stated that the subjects Mathematics, English, and Science have been developed in the English language while the remaining are in Urdu.

Minister Mahmood said that the SNC focuses primarily on the practical aspects of the Seerat of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and emphasizes the rights of the elderly, citizenship, religious tolerance, the need to take care of the planet, conservation of water, and the importance of values such as honesty and hard work.

The SNC also includes the constitutional framework of Pakistan, its national policies, its alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the vision of the Quaid and Muhammad Allama Iqbal, and the need for the development of 21st-century skills such as analytical, critical, and creative thinking.

Additionally, a separate curriculum titled ‘Religious Education’ has been developed for students from other faiths, including Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Bahaism, and the Kalash religion.
