Babar Azam Breaks Pakistan’s Captaincy Records in Test Cricket

Pakistan’s all-format captain, Babar Azam, has had a terrific start to his Test captaincy tenure, winning five out of his first six matches as captain. Babar replaced Azhar Ali as the captain of the Test team last year after Pakistan’s disappointing run of results under Azhar’s leadership. Pakistan had won only 2, drawn 3, and lost 3 matches under the captaincy of Azhar.

Babar started his captaincy with a 2-0 series victory over South Africa earlier this year. He has since gone onto win the two-match series against Zimbabwe and drawn the two-match Test series against the West Indies.

The 26-year old’s start to his Test captaincy career is one of the best in the country’s history. His record in the first six matches as captain is matched by the former middle-order batsman, Saleem Malik, and legendary pace bowler, Waqar Younis, as they both also had five wins in his first six matches as captains of the national side.

One of Pakistan’s most successful captains, Imran Khan, managed four wins in his first six matches as captain, while wicket-keeper batsman, Rashid Latif, also had four wins in his first six matches as captain.
