WhatsApp Chat Transfer from iOS to Android is Finally Live

Last month, WhatsApp announced plans to introduce chat transfer between iOS and Android during the official launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. The feature has now gone live, but it only works for Samsung devices for now.

If you have a Samsung device running on Android 10 or 11, you can now transfer your iPhone chats to it through the “import chat history” option in Settings.

This will transfer your account information, profile photo, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media, and settings. Your call history and display name, however, will not be moved to the other device.

Keep in mind that this cannot be done over a wireless connection and both devices will need to be connected via a USB-C to Lightning cable.

WhatsApp assures that the entire process of transferring chats happens without WhatsApp getting any of your messages, photos, videos, or other media. Once you set up a new Samsung device with Android 10 or 11, you will get the option to securely transfer your chats between iOS and your Samsung device.

Though a major caveat is that you can only do so if your Samsung device is new or has been factory reset from the settings.

You can find more details about chat transfer on WhatsApp’s blog post. The blog post also says that the feature will become available for other Android devices soon.
