Pakistan’s all-rounder, Mohammad Nawaz, has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the historic limited-overs series against New Zealand. Nawaz tested positive during the second round of testing upon the team’s arrival in Islamabad.
The left-arm spinner has been transferred to an isolation facility and will be quarantined according to the COVID-19 protocols. The rest of the squad members have all returned a negative test and are eligible to train. Pakistan cricket team will hold their first training session at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.
This will be the team’s first training session after the resignation of head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, and bowling coach, Waqar Younis. The former international stars, Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq, have been appointed as interim coaches for the national team.
Saqlain has been appointed as the interim head coach, while Razzaq has been appointed as the interim assistant coach for the upcoming home series against the Kiwis.
New Zealand’s historic tour of Pakistan will commence with the ODI series, with the first ODI scheduled to be played on 17 September. All the ODI matches will be played in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After the conclusion of the ODI series, the two teams will move to Lahore to play the five-match T20I series at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
