Vernon Philander Opens Up After Becoming Pakistan’s Coach for T20 World Cup

Former South African fast bowler, Vernon Philander, is excited to work with Pakistan’s pace battery after being appointed as the bowling coach of the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup. This will be Philander’s first coaching stint since his retirement from cricket last year, and he expressed his delight at being appointed as the bowling coach for the mega event.

Philander, while talking to local media, spoke about his new role with Pakistan cricket. He said, “Ramiz obviously called me up and asked if I was interested in joining the Pakistan team. It is a huge opportunity, which I couldn’t turn down. It’s also really exciting to work with a group of skillful youngsters.”

The 36-year old said that Pakistan possesses a lot of young exciting fast bowlers such as Mohammad Hasnain and Shaheen Afridi, and he is eager to start working with them. He said that he recently had the pleasure of watching Pakistan fast bowlers in their series against South Africa, and he was impressed with the skills of the fast bowlers.

Philander said that he aims to develop the fast bowlers and bring consistency in their performances. He added that the young team possesses a lot of talent, and he is excited to share his experience with the team while enabling the attacking brand of cricket that they want to play.

Philander is expected to join the team in the UAE before the start of the T20 World Cup. Pakistan’s first match in the competition will be played against arch-rivals India on 24 October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
