Umar Gul Calls Out PCB for its “Unethical” Behavior

Former fast bowler, Umar Gul, has called out the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its pathetic management on appointing Raj Hans, a former First-class cricketer, as the Assistant Coach of Balochistan despite him being the recommended candidate for the role.

The 37-year old expressed his disappointment by taking to Twitter, penning that despite having undergone the recruitment process and receiving assurance from Grant Bradburn, Head of High-Performance Coaching at National Cricket Academy (NCA) Lahore, of being recommended for the role, the PCB has silently appointed Raj Hans as the Assistant Coach of Baluchistan.

He said that he waited for almost a week to receive the appointment letter from the PCB and canceled all of his other commitments only to join Balochistan’s cricket team. However, he received no response from the PCB regarding his appointment, and earlier today he was informed about the appointment of Raj Hans.

The star bowler of the 2007 T20 World Cup triumph termed the handling of the entire episode by an organization such as the stature of the PCB as completely ‘unethical,’ questioning whether the state of affairs at the PCB will ever change.

He added that he will never get involved in anything without following the due process, clarifying that he wasn’t in need of the job but only wanted the youngsters with his cricketing knowledge.

Umar Gul bade farewell to cricket after 20 years in October last year. Known for his ability to bowl devastating yorkers, he was regarded as one of the finest T20 bowlers of his time. Besides the glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, he also played a central role in leading Pakistan to the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup and the semi-finals of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

He featured for Pakistan in 237 matches across all formats, taking 427 wickets in the process. He played for Western Australia, Gloucestershire, Sussex, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Quetta Gladiators during his career as well. He also faced a number of injuries that adversely impacted his international career.

Earlier this year in January, Quetta Gladiators appointed Umar Gul as their Bowling Coach ahead of the 6th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He replaced the legendary Abdul Razzaq who had been with the franchise since PSL 2.

Please note Umar Gul initially mentioned Raj Hans in one of his Tweets, which got deleted a few hours later.
