Accountability Court Sentences Ex Patwari to 3 Years in Jail for Corruption

A Lahore’s accountability court has convicted a Revenue Department official in a corruption reference, filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), and sentenced him to three years jail term along with a fine of Rs. 36 million.

According to details, NAB, Lahore initiated an inquiry against the accused named Patwari Muhammad Naveed in March 2016, following some secret complaints lodged against him regarding piling up of assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income. In December 2016, the inquiry unearthed multiple unexplained bank transactions of millions that landed into the personal bank accounts of the accused.

The investigation proceedings revealed that the accused got appointed as Patwari (BPS-5) in 1990 and was dismissed from service as Patwari (BPS-9) in 2016 under PEEDA [Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act] 2006. It was learned that in March 2017, the revenue officer was sent to judicial custody, and NAB, Lahore filed a corruption reference against him.

It is pertinent to mention here that NAB has an overall conviction ratio of 66.8 percent to stand the accused persons convicted in the courts.
