In a late announcement on Saturday, the federal government of Pakistan has increased the prices of petroleum products. These new prices will come into effect on 16 April 2023.
According to the Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, the price of petrol has been raised by Rs. 10, and it will now be sold at Rs. 282 per liter. The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been retained, and it will be available at the same rate of Rs. 293 per liter.
Finance Minister attributed this price hike to two main reasons. First, the rising petroleum prices globally and second, PKR’s value against US dollar.
Moreover, the price of kerosene oil has been increased from Rs. 180.29 per liter to Rs. 186.07, up by Rs. 5.78. Similar to the HSD, the price of light diesel oil has also been kept constant at Rs. 174.68 per liter by adjusting government dues, as per the Finance Minister.

The government’s move is likely to be met with mixed reactions from the public, who have already been struggling with the rising cost of living.
