Gas Consumers to Face up to 3900% Increase in Fixed Monthly Charges

Domestic gas consumers are set to face a staggering increase of up to 3,900 percent in fixed monthly charges.

Domestic (residential) consumers will face this burden as the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved a summary of the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) regarding revision in natural gas prices.

Under the approved revision in charges, protected domestic consumers will face an increase in fixed monthly charges from Rs. 10 to Rs. 400, an increase of 3,900 percent.

Non-protected domestic consumers have been divided into two categories. Non-protected domestic consumers who use up to 1.5 (cubic hectometer) will see their fixed monthly charges go up from Rs. 460 to Rs. 1,000, an increase of 117 percent.

The non-protected domestic consumers who use more than 1.5hm3 will see their fixed monthly charges go up from Rs. 460 to Rs. 2,000, an increase of 334 percent.
