Shaheen Afridi Officially Named T20I Captain of Pakistan

Pakistan’s premier pacer, Shaheen Afridi has been appointed as T20I captain of Pakistan, replacing Babar Azam, who handed in his resignation earlier in the day.

Babar had a stellar record as captain of the T20I side, after taking the reins almost four years ago. Babar led the national side to the semi-finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup and the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup.

The 29-year-old led the T20I side in 73 matches, won 42 games, lost 23 matches, and 6 ended in no result. He had a win percentage of 59.15 which is the 5th best in Pakistan’s history.

Shaheen will take over the reins immediately as Pakistan prepares for the T20 World Cup 2024 next year. The left-arm pacer has been one of the most successful captains in Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He led Lahore Qalandars to two consecutive trophies after the franchise went the first six years trophyless. Shaheen will be tasked to lead the national side to glory this time as the Men in Green hunt their second T20 World Cup title.
