The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Senior Manager Wahab Riaz and Manager Mansoor Rana from their posts due to a lack of discipline during the last three tours of the national men’s team. This decision follows reports of inappropriate behavior by pacer Shaheen Afridi and an overall decline in team discipline.
Pakistan’s recent tours included the T20I series in Ireland and England, followed by matches in the United States and the West Indies for the 2024 T20I World Cup. According to sources, Shaheen Afridi exhibited misconduct towards coaches and management during these tours. Despite his behavior, no disciplinary action was taken by the team managers.
Sources further disclosed that the PCB is investigating why the managers failed to address Afridi’s misconduct. The investigation will also delve into the existence of player lobbies within the team, which may have contributed to the internal discord. Reports from coaches have highlighted a non-serious attitude among some players, exacerbating the team’s issues. The negative atmosphere, characterized by players speaking against each other, has further deteriorated team morale.
In a related development, Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were removed from the Pakistan team selection committee following a disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and Bilal Afzal remain part of the committee.
Sources indicate that the PCB had lost confidence in Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq due to their influence on squad selection and their support for underperforming players.
